Engineered Flooring / Floating Floor Supply & Install

Today, Engineered, or floating floors have become very popular. Neither solid wood nor engineered wood can be called better than the other overall, but there are strong arguments for each and a few drawbacks for both as well.

Engineered wood is a layered product made of an actual, but thin, slice of hardwood on top of a base of high quality plywood. Engineered wood can be sanded once or twice lightly, it is easier to install than solid hardwood and because they are real wood, they can be advertised as such in the real estate market, making the floor more attractive to buyers.

Floating Floor Patterns & Colours

Engineered wood floors are durable, though not comparable to solid wood. Because the surface is thin, it can become chipped or de-laminated if pushed beyond normal conditions. It does however, hold a limited amount of moisture, raising it’s durability rating. It’s plywood base warps and flexes less easily upon contact with moisture than solid wood. The structure of the cross wise layers of fibre in plywood, is a far more stable than solid wood’s parallel fibres. Engineered wood can work in kitchens with proper precautions.

So if you would like to have the look of wood but lean towards the practical, Engineered wood can be installed in a few more rooms of the house than solid wood. It will return value, but won’t last as long as solid wood.
